Feliz Ano Novo!!! Happy New Year!!!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

My version:

This post today is to wish you a wonderful Happy New Year!

I found this figure that shows the feeling I want to share with you:Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Yes, 2006 brought us so many good things that I could not write them all here.
I got my ‘vast contract’, the kids were baptized, Peter got his promotion and now we just got a new car. My husband made me a surprise!
The kids are doing great at school, Filipe has training, he passed in NT2 in “niveau 3”!!
Lucas is also doing great and he is going to receive his ‘advies’. We trust he will have a good school, too.
Wow – so many blessings that I don’t know how to thank!

So here is a picture of Amsterdam for you:

I found so beautiful, and represents the light moment!

Next week I will write here about our vacation time. We have lots of things to share. But for now we wish you a WONDERFUL 2007!

Montei a árvore de Natal! Christmas tree is ready! UPDATE

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Hoje é Segunda feira e eu acordei atrasada.

My version UPDATE:
The photo of the Christmas tree is here, after the update. This year I decorated the tree with everything in red. I found that it is more beautiful than with silver and red of the other time. We bought new balls, I also bought that sort of red pearls collar, and so, now you can see the photo of my tree.

Today is Monday and I woke up late. I do not know if I didn’t hear the alarm or if it didn’t work. I hate when this happens. Everything must be done in a hurry. Anyway, c'est la vie!

Later when everybody left, the “maid”(yes me!) went to iron clothes. Sometimes I miss Brazil (cause there I had a person to do these things) anyway, so there was I organizing my clothes in the morning. But it was for “one good cause” after all, next week we are going to travel!

Yes! We will celebrate Christmas - day 24- in the IBC, later, day 25, we go to Lelystad, to celebrate the Dutch Christmas (lol) with the family of Peter and his mammy. We are going to celebrate her birthday in ‘great style’. Then we go to Brussels. We will spend the rest of the week there. The week will be short for so many activities!

3 anos de Holanda/ 3 years of Holland

Chegar atrasada já me deixa incomodada.

Esperam vc perguntar.

My version:

This last week we celebrate 3 years that we live in Holland. We had 3 long years, totally different of all the time that we’ve lived in Brazil. They had been years of adventure, joy, surprises, and sadness but, above all, 3 years where we found out more about ourselves, we’ve walked together, we fought and already won many battles. I still remember the first impression of the boys when we arrived here. It was end of November, and when left the airport, to go to our new house, they had been observing the view. And... “Mom, the trees are naked”- Yes, they did not have leaves. In Brazil we do not have this, unless the tree is deceased. I had already come here in the winter before, but kids not. Everything looked new.
Officially our arrival in Holland was in the 2nd of December, when we were at the city hall, registering us as citizens. After some months, we’ve also received the famous document of identity, which shows we are legally here and it gives us the right to work and to study. If I would write on everything it would become a book, therefore this blog helped me a lot. If you want to know more about me, or to read about my experiences when I arrived here in Holland, click in the previous posts.
But this post is just a summary and impression of this time.

Leaving the legal part aside - therefore this you can read in the link, where it says: “how to come to Holland” – the important and nice is to realize the changes on us. The boys are growing. If you want, you can see the photos in our “fotolog” – you just have to click above.

But to be adapted, or integrated as they use to say here, is not only this.

Nowadays, I see the changes that these years brought me. To arrive late already bugs me. This is something that we, Brazilian people, don’t find a problem, do we? To pass by a friend’s without phoning before? We do not do it already. But it is not only details as these.
We have the amused side, too.

Breakfast with bread and pindakaas, or bread with chocolate butter and granule chocolate (lol).
We laugh and cry a lot. The language still bothers me because although I practically understand everything, I still do not speak, as I would like.

Here we do not have the ‘three hundred holidays’ that we have in Brazil, but to compensate, we have ‘week of the spring’ (normally after the holiday of the Queen), ‘week of the autumn’ and ‘Christmas week’- between Christmas and New Year, besides the school vacations. These weeks are for the children, they are not holidays, but I find cool. When I did not work, I had chance to spend time with the boys. Now they spend time also with their friends.

Differences that until today I feel:

· Christmas: is celebrated on the 25 and 26. The 24th, or the night from 24 to 25 is a normal day. I found it this very weird.
· Gifts: here the gifts are distributed in day 5 of December, day of Sinterklaas, the Spanish bishop. Very strange. This celebration does not exist in Brazil, and here in our house we still give and receive presents on Christmas.
· ‘Military parade’ does not exist and the big holiday is the day of the Queen - 30 of April.
· Food: here everything is based on potato. By the way, one of the previous posts brings details on this.
· To be invited to eat: this is an honor, therefore Dutch people do not call anybody at the last moment. Everything is done previously. But also it has the good side of this: you are a special guest and you are treated as one. Everything is about you; normally the hosts make foods that know you like to eat. At last, I find it very cool.
· Party of anniversary: people, the cake comes before! They bring coffee or tea with the pie. Later it comes snacks or supper, depending on the type of party. But, off course you know it in advance. Hehe
· 50 years: SARA or ABRAAO. Yes, if you’re going to celebrate your 50th anniversary this is really in great style. This date is so important that shops sell cards especially for this date.
· 12,5 of marriage! Yes, one commemorates the 25 married years here or – ‘silver weddings’ but the half of this is also super celebrated, and in great style. Very cool.

More details:

Nobody is in a hurry. Yes, everybody waits here calmly in the line of the bakery, the supermarket, and the traffic lights. Yes, nobody horn when the signal opens. And if you dare to do so, hahaha everybody looks at you admired without understanding the reason well!
· Clothes: I had to learn how to dress myself for the winter. There is no use to put a very warm sweater but we need to dress ourselves with several light clothes. So when we arrive in a warm place, we just can take them out.
· The dealer or the person who sells is most of the time the owner, too. So we cannot expect to have a different treatment, as if we were very important. Here, you won’t see someone asking you: “do you need anything, can I help you?” because they believe in privacy, so they will wait to see if you want them to help you.

Good things:

· Normal, calm life, without desperation... Yes, here if you haven’t studied or if you don’t have Phd, you can have a nice job, with worthy wage. You will be able to pay all your bills. Perhaps you cannot have a new car, or perhaps you will not be able to travel frequently, but your life will be good. If you are sick, you will have medication and hospital without being 3 days in the line. Not everything is perfect, and for sure the system does not function as we want and sometimes we have ‘to cry’ to obtain. Sometimes, I am very annoyed with huisarts or family doctor here, but I learned to deal with them and now, when it’s necessary to get the well-known ‘letter for the specialist’, I know how to ask. Mainly when I try to speak in Dutch. Amazing how they are well more reasonable!
· If you have your degree recognized here and work experience, then your life will be very good. Hehe differently of our country, that not always brings us that ‘compensation’ for our efforts. But today I am not for ‘this kind of subject’. But if you talk badly about Brazil you will not have my support.

Well, I stop here otherwise it’s impossible to post. And then you do not read the message, do you?
